Welcome to El Tipico

LOCATIONS

Welcome to El Tipico, a hidden gem on 29 Neptune Blvd, located in the heart of Lynn, Massachusetts. Specializing in authentic Dominican cuisine, El Tipico invites diners to embark on a flavorful journey through Latin America. With a phone call to (781) 586-9535, you can reserve your seat for a culinary experience that celebrates rich traditions and vibrant flavors.

As you step inside, you are met with the warm ambiance typical of Caribbean eateries. The friendly staff are eager to serve dishes inspired by a culture steeped in history and flavor. While some customers have noted minor cleanliness issues in the dining area, the genuine hospitality and delicious fare make up for any oversight.

When it comes to the food, El Tipico truly shines. Diners rave about the Pastalitos, small stuffed pastries that provide a perfect on-the-go snack or a delightful appetizer. The Steak and Rice is another highlight, praised for its hearty taste, while the little empanadas, chicharrón, and plantains delight patrons looking for comfort food.

  • Mofongo: This dish, a staple in Caribbean cuisine, is expertly prepared at El Tipico. Guests have lauded the garlicky mash of green plantains, complete with crispy chicharrón and accompanied by rich beef stew sauce. It's a must-try and often described as a "flavor bomb."
  • Oxtails with Yellow Rice: For those craving something heartier, the oxtail dish served with yellow rice promises an explosion of flavor. Although some suggest that it can be a touch salty, the depth of taste makes it a recommended choice for adventurous palates.
  • Delicious and Affordable: Reviewers mention that the prices are reasonable for the quality of food served. However, the absence of a posted menu can leave unfamiliar customers guessing about pricing, which can be challenging, particularly for non-Spanish speakers.

While El Tipico may become crowded during peak hours, the wait is often worth it. Many patrons agree that the food experience overshadows any hiccups encountered along the way. Whether it's the comforting flan shared among friends or the satisfying crunch of chicharrón, each dining experience here becomes a cherished memory.

If you’re in Lynn and looking for a taste of Dominican charm, El Tipico offers more than food; it provides a slice of culture on your plate. So gather your friends or family, and prepare to savor every bite of what this delightful restaurant has to offer!

The food, especially, the Pastalitos, was perfect. Hit the spot. Service was friendly. Table area needed a good cleaning, but other than that, definitely planning on going back.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. There is an English/Spanish sign posted telling patrons to mention food allergies. I asked what type of oil the food is fried in because of a peanut allergy. I am an English language speaker only so I was not understood, I asked for an English speaker. When I asked again she did not know the type of oil. It took a little while to determine the oil is soy. There is not a menu or the price of the food posted. When it's time to pay for the food you don't know the cost of the individual items. That can be a problem to a person not familiar with the choices. That would be helpful in determining what to order. It's not a large establishment. When it's busy there it's extremely crowded. The food is worth the wait.

Craving Dominican food, my sister and I wanted to make another trip. We shared a plate of the yellow rice and braised oxtail. For drinks, my sister got the orange soda while I just had a bottle of water. We also shared a single serving of flan. They charged us about $18, however I feel as though it would not have cost as much for other patrons who speak Spanish. Either way, the food was good but very salty. I would suggest getting plain white rice with the oxtail sauce contains a lot of flavor already. Recommended always!

Mofongo is a big deal in the spanish speaking islands of the Caribbean and this review is for the Mofongo here. They make a smooth garlicky version here with plenty of chicharron meat inside on a bed of lettuce and a side of beef stew sauce it is a dreamy dish and a flavor bomb. PS Mofongo are deep fried pieces of green plantain mashed with garlic, salt, chicken broth and pork crackling (chicharron).
